Received Call from 8316618078, Got this call in Santa Cruz from a police officer asking to pay fine.
I was called by “Deputy Thomas Kolebeck” enquiring why I had failed to
Report for Jury Duty last Friday at the Santa Cruz Superior Court. I said I never received any mail. He told me that’s no excuse since the records show I was mailed and that I could choose to pay a fine or be present at the court for a hearing. He said I have to report for “the hearing” for at least 4 weeks.
He said I could pay $375 immediately. Asked me not to get off the phone and instead drive to the nearest store where I can get a Greendot Cash Card. He said he will give further instructions while I’m at the store.
I was indeed worried about the whole thing and was about to leave my home when my daughter came in! She could judge there was something wrong and I told her the story briefly… she told me to hang up first! And told me it’s a scam!

The scammer also would try to steal SS# and Date of Birth apart from other data for “verification”!
According to the FBI, callers pose as representatives of the FBI, Local Sheriff’s Office, the FDA, the IRS, other Federal Law enforcement authorities and scare victims by throwing around words like “financial fraud”, “loan default”, “arrest warrant”, “wage garnishment”, “lien on property”, “involvement in alcohol &drugs”, “buying controlled substances online without a valid prescription”, “possessing contraband”, “browsing pornography”, “contacting minor online”, “failure to attend jury duty” et al. The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment in attempts to obtain payment. The callers refuse to provide information regarding the alleged fraud or any other documentation and become verbally abusive when questioned.
Don’t give-in to such frauders. Federal law enforcement officers will never call and ask you to pay money. If you get such a call, do report to the local FBI Office
