The call is a scam to steal advance fees by offering a bogus, non existent loan.
Never pay money, in advance, by Ucash Vouchers or any such cash cards, Western Union, Money Gram etc for a loan.
Don’t pay money into Bank Account of an individual! NEVER DO that even if they give you account in Barclays, Llyods or any such bank, to pay.
Money paid to an individual by above means is gone for ever!
These scammers use bogus company names and may also have fake wesbites.
You have to verify whether the company has a physical office and is registered with the UK Office of Fair Trading.
Under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 lenders must have a license from the UK Office of Fair Trading (OFT) to offer consumer credit.
You can check whether the lender is registered with the Consumer Credit Register of OFT at www2.crw.gov.uk/pr/Default.aspx (www.goo.gl/koDAr7) Click on “Search the Register” link there.
Easiest will be to obtain registration number from the lender and search for that. Check whether the trading name, organization name and address in the OFT records matches with those given by the company.
(IMPORTANT: Scammer may give OFT of a legit company!! So You have to verify whether the caller actually represents the company. Don’t rush. We would also suggest to transact directly with a physical branch office rather than with scammers calling over phone)
Example: search for “AdvanceBritain.com” in the “Trading Name” field. You will get result and can review complete details of the company.
There are hundreds of bogus lenders in the UK with scam websites mostly operated by immigrants. Their aim is only to scam people. They naturally do not have any money to lend.
Everyday, hundreds of Brits are falling prey to these scumbags and the UK Govt. is doing pretty little to stop this scourge.
The company name given to you could be a registered entity BUT there is every chance that scammer is using such name to steal Advance Fees.
You should make a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service consumer helpline on 0300 123 9 123 or 0800 023 4567 AND also email it to complaint.info@financial-ombudsman.org.uk
(Do note: To make a complaint to Ombudsman you should have the lender’s registration number. So before taking loan, ensure that you are taking it from a Lender registered with OFT)
